Early Autumn

I had a wonderful weekend visiting Hilltop the home of Beatrix Potter a heroine of mine and many illustrators. You may not be aware that Beatrix only slept here on a few occasions as before she was married she was expected to look after her Mother in London. It's only after marrying William Heelis that Beatrix bought the house opposite Hilltop but used Hill top as a retreat and a space to paint.

The surrounding countryside in the lake district is stunning, living only a couple of hours drive away it is a favourite weekend break to relax and be inspired. The rain came down as I walked around the village but this to me enhanced the feel of cosiness , the gentle pitter patter of the rain, the smell of the earth, the gentle bleet of the sheep all delights of the English countryside

Spending time in nature soaking in the sights and sounds of the seasons always leaves me feeling inspired I couldn"t wait to start painting on my return home
